Paving project enters second phase: Important notice for residents

The second phase of the paving project will begin Thursday, Oct. 20. C&S Asphalt of Scottsboro will be applying sealant throughout the complex for the next two days. A few important notes for residents and their guests:

  • Be aware that some of the road will be one way only, and some parking areas will be closed as needed.
  • Obey all instructions from the paving crew.
  • Do not attempt to drive around cones or barriers.
  • Do not drive on the fresh sealant – doing so will cause damage to your vehicle, and the Stone’s Throw Association will not be responsible for any damage.
  • Please do not speed, as it is dangerous to both you and the workers.

We appreciate your understanding and patience during this community improvement project. If you have any questions or concerns, please email us at board@stonesthrow.org, or leave a voice message at (256) 829-8563.

Paving project to begin Oct. 3, use caution entering and exiting the complex

C&C Asphalt of Scottsboro will be demolishing the stamped concrete at the entrance and roundabout of Stone’s Throw as early as Monday, Oct. 3.

Once the stamped concrete has been removed, the company will begin replacing it with asphalt and applying a seal coat to the rest of the pavement around the complex. Residents are asked to use care entering and exiting the complex during the project.

C&C Asphalt believes the project will take about a week to complete. Read more about the paving project here.

Board to approach bank for street paving loan

Board members and owners who attended last night’s town hall meeting voted unanimously to approach the bank for an approximately $66,000 loan to cover the cost of repairing and sealing the pavement in the condo complex. The loan will cover the cost of the paving project – estimated at $33,646 – and will allow the association to consolidate its other outstanding loans. This plan, if financing comes through, would save the association about $350 a month.

The board has agreed to work with C&C Asphalt of Scottsboro to repair the street. The company will demolish the stamped concrete at the entrance of the complex and at the roundabout, replacing it with asphalt. The company will also replace damaged asphalt near the back of the complex and seal the remaining pavement. The result will be a solid black, new driving surface throughout the complex. Once the financing has been settled, the project will begin within a couple of weeks, depending on C&C’s schedule. The paving should take about a week to complete. Throughout the project, cones and barriers will be placed to prevent residents from driving on wet pavement, and the company will ensure that one lane of the drive remains open for local traffic.

The board will be able to provide more specifics about the project as we move forward. Another town hall meeting will be called once Accountant Linda Kincer has spoken to the bank. At that time, the board will present the financing options and will determine if an assessment should be made. All owners are encouraged to attend.

Don’t forget to pick up your digital cable boxes from Comcast

Cable service is included in your monthly dues to the Stone’s Throw Condominium Association. In order to keep receiving your complimentary cable service, you must pick up a digital cable box from Comcast Cable. Simply go to the Comcast office at 2047 Max Luther Drive and request a digital cable box. Tell the representative you live in a condominium complex that provides cable service, and the representative will ask for your name, address, and telephone number to begin the process.

A guide to your new equipment

To continue receiving cable service on all your TVs, you will need either a set-top box or a digital adapter for each TV. You may have up to 1 set-top box and 2 digital adapters free of charge. While both types of equipment allow you to watch cable TV, the set-top box has additional features like a channel guide and the ability to purchase pay-per-view movies.

The condo association will not pay for On Demand, Pay-Per-View, or additional cable services. Please be aware that if you purchase additional services, you will receive a separate bill from Comcast and will be responsible for paying the charges. You are also responsible for caring for your digital cable equipment and must return it to Comcast when you move out of the complex.

If you have any questions about your new equipment, consult a Comcast representative or check out the Comcast Digital website, which includes a step-by-step installation video.

Reminder about exterior maintenance and neighborhood complaints

To report any issues, concerns or repair requests, please call 256-829-8563 and leave a detailed message with your name, unit number and phone number.

You may also leave a written message in the green mailbox next to the dumpster area and across from Building B. Please be sure to include your name, unit number and contact information.

Note: The association maintains the exterior components of your property — stairs, sidewalks, roofs and the like — but you are responsible for the interior or your condo. Heating and cooling units, interior plumbing, windows and similar systems are your responsibility.
